Farkle is a push-your-luck dice game for 2 to 4 players: roll six dice, set aside the ones that score — each 1 is worth 100 and each 5 is worth 50, three of a kind scores from 200 up to 1,000 — then decide: reroll the rest and press your luck, or bank your points and end your turn safely.

Farkle in a nutshell

Played with six dice. Every roll must set aside at least one scoring combination: each 1 scores 100, each 5 scores 50, three of a kind scores 200–1,000, and a full straight, three pairs, or two triplets score 1,500–2,500. A roll with nothing that scores is a Farkle — you lose every point from that turn — and the first player to bank 5,000 points wins.

Frequently asked questions

How many dice are used in Farkle?

Six dice, each with faces 1 through 6. All six are rolled at the start of every turn.

How many players can play Farkle?

Two to four players at our tables; everyone plays for themselves.

How many points do you need to win Farkle?

5,000 banked points: the first player to reach or pass 5,000 wins immediately — no exact score required.

How much is a 1 or a 5 worth?

Each 1 scores 100 points and each 5 scores 50 points, and either can be kept as a single scoring die.

What is three of a kind worth?

1-1-1 scores 1,000; 2-2-2 through 6-6-6 score the face value × 100 (so 4-4-4 = 400). Four of a kind doubles the triplet, five of a kind quadruples it, six of a kind gives eight times.

What happens on a Farkle?

A roll with no scoring combination wipes out every point from your current turn — including dice already set aside — and your turn ends. Points you banked earlier stay safe.

What is Hot Dice?

Set aside all six dice in one turn: you reroll a fresh set of six and keep playing your turn with the points you have accumulated. You may also bank instead of rolling.

Do you have to score exactly 5,000?

No. Any banked total of 5,000 or more wins the game instantly.
